This Vintage 1970s Nippon Sento Onion Navigation Lamp is a rare addition to our catalog. It was made in Japan by Nippon Sento Co. Ltd. Nippon Sento Co. Ltd. is a marine supplier that has been providing lighting equipment for ships and airports since 1936. There is a small brass plate that is dated Oct. 1970 with Nippon Sento Co LTD along the bottom.
This nautical lantern is made of brass and glass. There is some surface wear on the brass, which could be left as is or easily be polished up. It measures about 13 inches tall by 9.5 inches wide, with the handles, extended 17 inches. The clear glass globe is 7.5 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall, it is protected by a wire cage. It weighs 3.4 pounds.

The lamp has an oil burner with a wick with a thumbscrew to move it up and down. The wire cage has some light bends here and there. There’s also some surface wear on the base and top.
We have left this in the unwired condition that it came to us in. To access the burner, simply pull up the handle turn until it is free and pops out.
