Description
This vintage binnacle features a Frodsham and Keen compass housed in a steel body marked by Perkins Marine Lamp & Howe Corp. Founded in 1916 by Frederick and Louis Perkins in Brooklyn, NY, the company began using the “PERKO” trademark in 1922. Today, PERKO remains a family-run operation, continuing a legacy that spans five generations.
Frodsham and Keen, established in 1856 in Liverpool, England, gained recognition for crafting marine chronometers and precision nautical instruments. Their name appears prominently on the compass face, affirming its origin.
The steel binnacle includes the classic PERKO logo on its front. Just above the compass sits a small lightbulb, originally used to make the compass visible during foggy conditions or nighttime navigation. For easier display, we’ve mounted the entire piece on a round wooden base.
Key features:
- Frodsham & Keen compass marked “LIVERPOOL”
- Original PERKO logo from Perkins Marine Lamp & Howe Corp.
- Light fixture included above the compass for visibility
- Mounted on a wood base for stable display
Whether you’re a collector or a fan of practical nautical gear, this piece brings a real part of maritime history into your space.
