Shipping Policy

Instead of raising our prices for 2026, we’ve moved away from free shipping and are able to offer a simplified shipping cost for our customers. If you purchase multiple items and believe that the cost might be a little too high, please email or call us to have the cost double checked.

Shipping Cost Formula

Dimensional Weight is a way that shipping companies calculate shipping costs – to calculate that cost, you multiply Length*Width*Height and then divide it by a number of the companies choice, for example, FedEx uses 139. The result of that is called the dimensional weight. If that dimensional weight is higher than the actual weight of the box, then they will charge you for the dimensional weight.

At Big Ship Salvage, most of our items will be charge by actual weight because of the nature of our inventory, but on occasion, the item is oddly shaped and light, in which case the dimensional weight will be used. When you compare the two weights and choose the one that you will be billed, that can be referenced as the billable weight.

Heavy Item Surcharge – Items that have an Actual Weight greater than 50 lbs, will have a surcharge of $40 applied.

Our formula is simple.
Product shipping cost = (($1 * Billable Weight) + Applicable Surcharges)*Zone Multiplier.

The minimum cost will be $15.

Zone Multipliers: Zone 2 = 0.8, Zone 3 = 0.9, Zone 4 = 1.0, Zone 5 = 1.1, Zone 6 = 1.2, Zone 7 = 1.3, Zone 8 = 1.4
