Description
This vintage 1961 Marine Electric Tachometer Receiver is a solid example of mid-20th-century marine engineering. Designed to measure engine RPMs, it uses a magnetic pickup near the rotating engine to generate electric pulses. The frequency of those pulses matches the engine’s speed, making it a critical monitoring tool on board.
The previous owner added a wall outlet to light up the faceplate, though it currently has no bulb installed.
On the front, the tachometer is labeled with “ASTERN” and “AHEAD,” along with the manufacturer’s name: Tokyo Keiki Seizosho., Tokyo, Japan. Additional technical details—such as voltage, amperage, serial number, and the date—appear on the bottom panel.
Key features:
- Manufactured in 1961 by Tokyo Keiki Seizosho, Japan
- Measures engine RPMs using a magnetic pickup

This piece makes a practical addition to any maritime collection, especially for those focused on engine room equipment and ship instrumentation.
