Description
This boxed vintage ship-log is made by Cassens & Plath, a respected maritime instrument maker founded in Bremen in 1902 by Captain Tanne Janssen Cassens. Ship-logs like this one were used to measure a vessel’s speed through water.
The set includes multiple components, all stored in the original wooden box. While some wear is visible, several parts remain wrapped and well-preserved.
Inside the box:
- Two black-coated taffrails (propellers) with attached ropes
- One log watch with deck shoe
- A regulator wheel, still wrapped in plastic
- A ship-log marked SHIP-LOG AIKOKU
- Manufacturer’s mark STEGER JR. Kiel on the box
Overall, the components are in decent shape. The log shows some wear, but it’s intact. One taffrail and the regulator wheel are still wrapped. The deck shoe also looks good. However, the wooden box has a visible crack on one side, and the bottom is a bit unstable.
Key Features:
- Vintage boxed set – Includes multiple original navigation parts
- Brand markings – Cassens & Plath log with additional manufacturer details
- Mixed condition – Well-preserved internals; worn but original box
- Collector-friendly – Solid addition to a nautical collection
This is a classic example of early maritime navigation tools—functional, display-worthy, and full of vintage character.
