Description

This is a vintage Tamaya & Co. marine sextant, known for its accuracy and ease of use. Navigators and trainees around the world have trusted this tool for real navigation work.

A sextant is a navigation device that measures the angle between two visible points—often the horizon and a celestial body—using a system of mirrors and a graduated arc.

This Tamaya sextant comes in its original mahogany box. It includes a range of components used for precise measurements:

Included features and parts:

  • Index mirror and horizon mirror (with adjustment screws)
  • Telescope with Tamaya logo and markings: 7×50 7*
  • Alidade (index arm) with graduated arc
  • Quick-release clamp and micrometer drum
  • Three hinged index mirror shades and four hinged horizon mirror shades
  • Battery cap, rubber grip marked “Tamaya Tokyo”
  • Original box keys
  • Blue and white Japanese label with number 336929

You’ll also find engraved markings on the arc: TAMAYA & CO., LTD NO. 29657 and PAT NO. 816705.

This Tamaya sextant is a solid example of working maritime gear, ideal for collectors or anyone setting up a nautical display in a home, office, or workshop.
