This is a Crosby Gauge, produced for Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. Chester, Pa, USA. This was manufactured in Boston, Massachusetts by Crosby.
The Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Company was located on the Delaware river in Chester, Pennsylvania from 1917-1989. By World War II they were in the top 5 largest shipyard. During the war they primarily built T2 Tankers but also built hospital ships, cargo ships, and escort carriers for the United Stated Maritime Commission. In 1876, Crosby started the Crosby Steam Gauge and Valve Company in Boston, Massachusetts.
The face of the gauge has several inscriptions. These read “SUN SHIPBUILDING & DRY DOCK CO. CHESTER, PA. U.S.A.”, “5 LB. SUBDIV.”, “STEAM TO AFT. PUMP ROOM”, “CROSBY BOSTON, U.S.A.”, and “AIH LBS. PER SQ INCH”.
The housing on this piece is brass. The main housing measures about 7 inches wide. The mounting frame on the back measures 7.8 inches wide and has three mounting holes. The glass on the top of the dial measures about 5.5 inches wide. This weighs x pounds. When mounted to the wall, this pressure gauge will extend out from the mounting surface by about 2.25 inches. It reads up to 300 Lbs. PER SQ. INCH.
