Description
This Henry Browne marine compass with stand was manufactured under the Sestrel name, a trusted British brand known for precision maritime instruments. Founded in the early 20th century in Barking, London, Henry Browne & Sons Ltd. earned a strong reputation for producing compasses, sextants, and other navigation tools for both commercial and military use.
This model features a “Deadbeat” movement and includes a gimbal bracket housed in a custom wood box. Additionally, the unit is mounted on a matching wood stand, making it a functional and attractive display for offices, libraries, or nautical-themed interiors. The gimbal design helps the compass remain level, even during motion at sea.
Although it has not been tested for calibration, the compass appears functional. However, it will require a fluid refill to maintain accuracy over time.
