This set includes a The Ashcroft MFG. Co. Vacuum Pressure Gauge, manufactured in New York by the The Ashcroft MFG. Co. The Ashcroft MFG. Co. dates back to 1852 when Edward H. Ashcroft bought the rights to a French pressure gauge design to revolutionize the pressure gauges for steam engines. The invention of a pressure gauge that could monitor high pressure decreased the amount of steam engine accidents.
The second piece in the set is a Bevin Bros. Bell, manufactured in East Hampton (Bell Town), Connecticut. The Bevins family has been crafting bells since its founding in the early 1800s. After almost 200 years they are producing over 50 styles of bells.
The solid wood mount measures 11 inches by 24 inches by 3/4 inches. The housing on this rare piece is solid brass with the bottom half painted black. The main housing measures about 7 1/4 inches wide. The mounting frame on the back measures 7 3/4 inches wide and has three mounting holes. The glass on the top of the dial measures about 5 1/2 inches wide. The dial reads”The ASHCROFT MFG. CO. NEW YORK” logo “Vacuum Press.” , “REG US PAT OFF 430396A”. The connection point for the source being measured is made of brass. This vacuum pressure gauge will extends out from the mounting surface by about 2 inches. It reads up to 30. The Bevins bell has a cast iron base and a solid brass bell. The cast iron base has “BEVIN” molded into it. The base measures 6 inches by 8 inches. The solid brass bell has an 8 inch diameter.
This is a very versatile item. It will be of interest for a broad range of designers – Steam Punk to nautical design in mind.
