Here is a Vintage Lilley & Gillie Aneroid Barometer which was made in North Shields England. An aneroid barometer is an instrument used for measuring air pressure as a method that does not involve liquid.

You will see in the photos that the base isn’t totally flat and you will see some wear on the brass. The glass on the face is in good condition as well as the numbers and the lettering.

This is a perfect item to place on your wall with other nautical items.

History of Company

In 1812 John Lilley founded John Lilley and Son in London as an optician and nautical instrument maker. In 1885 John Wilson Gillie founded Wilson & Gillie in North Shields as chart agents and magnetic compass and nautical instrument makers. In 1913 the two companies merged, and in 1943 were renamed John Lilley & Gillie Ltd. They are still producing premium nautical instruments to this day.
