Some deluge guns were even used to fight off would-be pirates and discourage them from looting their ship. However, the more practical application would be to disperse thousands of gallons of water wherever is needed and are often designed to accommodate foam which has been injected in the upstream piping. Modern versions of deluge guns are still being made to this day for installation on ships.
