Vintage Ship Engine Telegraph – 1975 Japanese Nunotani

Nunotani Keiki Seisakusho Ltd. manufactured this Vintage Ship Engine Telegraph in Amagasaki, Japan. Its identification plate dates the instrument to January 1975.

Originally, ship crews used engine telegraphs to send commands between the bridge and engine room. The dial displays ahead, astern, stop, stand-by, and several speed settings.

Today, the handle still moves through the command positions. Moreover, the internal mechanism produces its traditional chime during operation.

We have not tested the electrical components. Therefore, we recommend this telegraph as an authentic decorative maritime collectible.

Over time, the aluminum body developed dings, scratches, and surface wear. Even so, the glass remains intact and in good condition on both sides.

In addition, the 14-inch base contains six mounting holes. As a result, the telegraph can bolt securely to a floor or display platform.

At 43 inches tall, this piece creates an impressive focal point. For example, display it in a home, office, restaurant, hotel, or nautical collection.
