This is a vintage nautical miles log by Thomas Walker & Son Ltd. Made in Birmingham, England the manufacturers of this log were Thomas Walker & Sons LTD. It was introduced in 1902 and allowed the navigator to remain in the pilot house to take his readings rather than at the vessel’s stern where the log register was located. This log features an instrument head with a white porcelain face, and analog counters with black numbers for distance run. It has three dials which measure miles in the single and hundred’s (the large dial registers up to 100 miles, and the smaller registers, 10 and 1000 nautical miles). It does not include the rotor, electric wire, or taffrail. This is one of Walker’s most advanced logs.
On the back of the log is the serial number AE3661. The gauge measures 7″ at the widest point and is 8″ tall as shown. The face itself has a diameter of 6 1/2″. And the gauge would project 3″ when mounted. It is made of brass.
**The center had is not attached to the top of the small mount post.**
