This item is a polished vintage aluminum and brass lifeboat alarm bell. Alarms are installed all over ship to notify the crew about various dangerous situations that could arise while out on the sea. 7 short alarm rings followed by 1 long alarm ring signals a general alarm while continuous ringing signals a fire alarm. There are several other alarm sounds that signify different emergencies, these are standard practice across the international maritime industry.
It measures about 15 inches tall with the brass bell being 7 inches in diameter. The lower aluminum housing has three mounting legs. This alarm bell weighs about 9 pounds.
The working condition of this alarm bell has not been tested by us at Big Ship Salvage, however, we have had customers report to us that they’ve successfully restored these to ring once again.
Additional Nautical Items:
Big Ship Salvage scours the world for nautical antique lights, décor and other items related to the Nautical Life. Brass, copper, stainless steel and sometimes aluminum materials are used to make-up the vintage lights that we find. We soda-blast the old paint off, remove the old wiring and polish before they arrive in our warehouse. Then, we rewire with UL listed bulb sockets and wiring harnesses and get ready for purchase. They are now ready to warm your home, business or restaurant with that nautical feeling we all desire.
