Vintage Brass Pressure Gauge

This is an 1850 Ashcroft USA Gauge, Blower Lub. Oil, bronze tube Duragauge. The Ashcroft MFG. Co. dates back to 1852 when Edward H. Ashcroft bought the rights to a French pressure gauge design to revolutionize the pressure gauges for steam engines. The invention of a pressure gauge that could monitor high pressure decreased the amount of steam engine accidents.

The gauge is made off bronze and cast iron. The dial face reads: Blower Lub. Oil – 1/4 Lb. Subd. – Duraguage – 1850 Ashcroft U.S.A. – Patent Dates Inside – Bronze Tube Duragauge. The Bronze ring around the front is 6 1/4 in diameter. The glass on the top of the dial has a few nicks and measures about 4 inches wide. The back of main housing measures about 4 1/2 inches wide. From the face to back it measures 2 1/4 inches with the connector it is 3 3/4 inches. When mounted to the wall, this pressure gauge will extend out from the mounting surface by about 3/4 inches. The connection point for the source being measured is bronze and measures 1 1/2 inches. It weights 4.8  Pounds and reads up to 30.

This is a very versatile item. It will be of interest for a broad range of designers – Steam Punk to nautical design in mind.
