Full Builders Hull Model of an American Steam Tug Period 1890 – 1910

Pond yachts are fascinating pieces of history – one of the original toys that became collector items in it’s later years. In the 1880s – 1920s, people were creating scaled models of large sailing vessels, and took them to local ponds to see them sail! The only problem was that they couldn’t scale down the wind like they did the boat – and the wind eventually forced them to make smaller dimension boats that handled the severe power of the wind better.

This is a really interesting piece – it’s not often that you see a full hull builder’s model! This was one solid piece of wood that has been carved to the dimensions of an early 20th century steamboat. Builder’s models were able to be measured and then scaled up to the exact full size of the tug boat. The scale of the dimensions for the model perfectly mimicked the relationship of the dimensions for the larger ship.

A very unique collector’s piece. I haven’t seen another full hull model like this.
