You are looking at the Barge Alabama In Detour Michigan. The Alabama was once a Great Lakes Passenger Steamer way back in the early 1900’s and then was out of service in 1942. It later was converted into a non-powered barge in 1961. It was final scrapped for parts in 2006.
As passage to Lake Superior became easier Detour Village became a stop for ships as a fueling station for those that required firewood to churn their propellers through the water.
You will also find below the picture the words: ALABAMA as a barge at Detour, Michigan.
This would be a perfect addition for anyone that has a Great Lakes collection!
