This is an vintage maritime wind gauge anemometer with a nautical propeller that was salvaged from a vessel destined to be cut up for scrap at one of the shipbreaking yards. The propeller for sale is aluminum, the tail cone is fiber, and most of the rest of the unit is brass. The aluminum propeller has four blades and measures 13 3/4 inches tip to tip. From the ground to the top of the tail this wind gauge anemometer measures 30 1/2 inches tall. From the front tip to the back of the tail it measures 28 inches. The propeller turns with some resistance. The unit only spins about 30 degrees on the mount pipe. This antique wind gauge anemometer weighs about 26 pounds.
By definition, a windmill anemometer is similar to its namesake, the windmill, in that it must be parallel to the direction of the wind in order to work properly. A wind vane, attached to the tail of the anemometer, is pushed around until the propeller is facing into the wind. The wind then turns the propeller, which rotates a mechanism that calculates the wind speed.
We have not determined if this wind gauge anemometer works or not, but regardless, it will make a unique display item in your home or outside in your yard or garden area.
You will be shipped the vintage wind gauge anemometer shown in the photos.

Here is a vintage model ship in a bottle. The glass bottle measures 9 inches long and is 4 1/2 X 4 1/4 inches at the base. The model maritime ship vessel has three masts and is about 7 inches long and 3 1/2 inches tall. The hand painted back drop shows a village with four large buildings and trees. While not dated, I would say this item dates to the 1940’s. Glass bottle is undamaged.
I would not call this a complicated project, but someone put some time, effort, and skill into this finished piece. I am sure this is not a model kit, but more of a project where someone hand crafted the parts from scratch. A vintage model ship in a bottle can range in price and size. Most collectors find a ship model in a bottle that costs less than a hundred dollars, but I have seen more advanced projects run into the thousands of dollars.
This model ship in a bottle is a very unusual, simple looking piece. It’s the perfect finishing touch for your nautical décor.
We are constantly adding new inventory to our site. Our inventory includes a great selection of authentic brass nautical lighting, lifeboat rings, compasses, artwork, and other great nautical treasures.
