Often times we see watertight doors and hatches at the shipyards and we walk past them because the of the overall size and weight. I always thought the coolest part of these original watertight doors and hatches was the cast iron wheel, so I started pulling them when we spotted ones that could be removed without too much effort.
This salvaged ship’s watertight hatch wheel measures about 12 1/2 inches wide and weighs about 12 pounds. This item is being sold in as found condition. You can expect loose paint, dirt, and some grease here and there. This is a great display piece that can be displayed unrestored, restored, or even painted!
You will be shipped the salvaged ship’s watertight hatch wheel shown in the attached photos!

An original brass ship propeller is always a great find, especially if it is in brass. This maritime ship propeller is solid brass and measures about 16 inches in total diameter. And it measures 8 inches from the center of the hub to the edges of the blades. The hub is 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and 3 1/4 inches from front to back. This original brass ship propeller weighs just over 8 pounds. We have not found any marks to identify its maker.
Simply speaking, a maritime propeller is made up of sections of helicoidal surfaces which act together ‘screwing’ through the water (hence the common reference to marine propellers as “screws”). Three, four, or five blades are most common in marine propellers, although designs which are intended to operate at reduced noise will have more blades. The blades are attached to a boss, or hub, which should be as small as the needs of strength allow – with fixed-pitch propellers the blades and boss are usually a single casting.
We have a few other ship propellers in stock – just scroll up or down to view them! Placing an order is easy. Here is a vintage model ship in a bottle. The glass bottle measures 9 inches long and is 4 1/2 X 4 1/4 inches at the base. The model maritime ship vessel has three masts and is about 7 inches long and 3 1/2 inches tall. The hand painted back drop shows a village with four large buildings and trees. While not dated, I would say this item dates to the 1940’s. Glass bottle is undamaged.
I would not call this a complicated project, but someone put some time, effort, and skill into this finished piece. I am sure this is not a model kit, but more of a project where someone hand crafted the parts from scratch. A vintage model ship in a bottle can range in price and size. Most collectors find a ship model in a bottle that costs less than a hundred dollars, but I have seen more advanced projects run into the thousands of dollars.
This model ship in a bottle is a very unusual, simple looking piece. It’s the perfect finishing touch for your nautical décor.
We are constantly adding new inventory to our site. Our inventory includes a great selection of authentic brass nautical lighting, lifeboat rings, compasses, artwork, and other great nautical treasures.
