Description
This vintage ship life ring came from the cargo ship SHANDONG EXPRESS, a wood chip carrier that sailed under the Panama flag. The vessel was built in 1989 and worked as a bulk carrier transporting wood chips. Crew members mounted life rings like this around the ship as part of the vessel’s required safety equipment.
The ring still shows the original stenciled lettering “SHANDONG EXPRESS – PANAMA.” It features the bright orange paint commonly used on life-saving equipment because it stands out clearly at sea. In addition, the reflective bands help improve visibility in low light conditions.
The outer rope line is still attached and runs through the ring just as it did when mounted on the ship. Because this piece served on a working vessel, it shows honest wear from use at sea. Some paint has chipped away over time. However, the rope and reflective tape remain in place.
As a result, the ring keeps the worn look that collectors often want in authentic maritime equipment. The markings, wear, and original parts all show that this was real working gear.
Today, many people display pieces like this as nautical wall décor in homes, restaurants, and coastal spaces. If you want a vintage ship life ring with real ship history, this example from the SHANDONG EXPRESS makes a strong display piece.
