This vintage Great Lakes 1960’S E. G. Grace Adults Cloth Life Vest was made by Style-Crafters. Inc. Greenville, S.C. It is stamped US. Coast Guard approved several times. The cushioning, cloth straps and brass buckles are present.
This preserver is from the Steel Great Lakes bulk freighter ‘E. G. Grace’. It was constructed in Lorain, Ohio in 1943 and was in operation until 1984.
Built for U. S. Maritime Commission, Class L6-S-A1 under its World War II vessel construction program. Launched as Lincolnshire. Renamed E. G. Grace and delivered at commissioning to Interlake Steamship Co. –www.greatlakesvesselhistory.com
This life vest has written on the back side – “E.G. Grace”. Over the front and back there are numerous amount of Unites States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.) inspection passed stamps that range from the 1960’s – 1970’s. The outer right side panel reads – ADULT Approval No. 160.002/78/0 Model 3 KAPOK life preserver-approved for use on all vessels and motorboats Style-Crafters. Inc. Greenville, S.C.
