Product Description

You are looking at a B.F. Fairless Jim Bouy – Life Preserver. The Benjamin Fairless was built in 1942 as a gearless bulk carrier by the American Shipbuilding Company of Lorain, Ohio, for the Pittsburgh Steamship Division of the United States Steel Corporation. She was launched on April 25, 1942, entering service on September 15, 1942, she then was headed to Duluth, Minnesota, to load iron ore. She was sold for scrap in early 1987.

On these life preservers you will see that it is a type 1 Personal floatation device. It was designed to turn an unconscious wearer face up in the water. This life preserver was approved for use on All Vessels by persons weighing more than 90 lbs.

There are some stamps by the United States Coast Guard that shows they passed inspection. You will also find the name B.F. Fairless on left side of the preserver as well. You will also notice that a reflector strip is missing on the front of the vest.

If you are looking for a life vest from the Great Lakes to add to your collection then this one is for you!

This life preserver is being sold as-in condition.
