There have been seven U.S. merchant ships that have been named SS Samuel Mather. However, this life ring comes to us from the third SS Samuel Mather. The ship was built in Lorain, Ohio by the American Ship Building Co. and launched in 1926. There have been about 7 different owners of this ship throughout the years. This salvaged life ring measures about 23 inches wide by about 3.25 inches thick. The weight is equal to 5.6 pounds. Both sides of the life ring are shown in the photos.
This life ring is being sold in as-found condition. It will have loose or missing paint. It has only been wiped down for the photos. The original rope has not been replaced.
