Here we have another Great Lakes Life Ring that was salvaged off the Kinsman Independent.
The ship now known as the Kinsman Independent was first built in 1952 to serve as a steel carrying vessel on the Great Lakes. After changing hands many times, she began to carry grain in the mid 1980s until the end of her days. This was one of the many vessels owned by George Steinbrenner, famously known for owning the New York Yankees. This life ring was salvaged from the famous Kinsman Independent in 2002 and we are now offering this item for your personal collection!

This is a model SRB-030 manufactured by Coated Marine Products in Waukegan, IL. It was approved for use on all recreational boats less than 16 feet so this was likely used for a lifeboat on the Kinsman Independent.
It has a diameter of 30 inches about 30 inches wide by 3 inches thick. The weight is 6.2 pounds.
This life ring is being sold in as-found condition. It has only been wiped down for the photos. The original rope has not been replaced.
