Vintage Brass Ship Binnacle with Compass – Marine Compass Stand
$1,500.00
ITEM #:
Description
This vintage brass ship binnacle with compass is an original marine navigation fixture used to house and protect a ship’s compass. It includes a Nunotani compass mounted inside the housing, which helped crews maintain direction while underway. Nunotani is a Japanese manufacturer known for producing marine compasses used on working vessels.
The body features solid brass construction with visible patina across the surface. Over time, exposure to salt air and marine conditions created this wear, showing the working life of the piece. The pedestal base remains intact, and the binnacle still holds its structure. However, the hood is missing its glass panels, which leaves the compass exposed. The compass remains untested, and no functional claims are made.
Despite this, the internal components are still present, including the compass dial and housing. This vintage brass ship binnacle with a compass remains a strong candidate for restoration since the main structure is still in place. It works well as a rebuild project and can also serve as a display piece in its current condition for maritime settings or collections.
This piece is being sold in as-is condition.
