1974 Japanese Electric Telegraph with Loud Ringing Movement

This vintage EOT (Engine Order Telegraph) came off a working vessel and dates to April 1974. Nunotani Keiki Seisakusho Ltd. of Amagasaki, Japan, built this electric telegraph to be stand the test of time — and that it did! Weight is 60 lbs.

It stands on an aluminum base that wraps up and around the telegraph face. The front  and back feature a plate that clearly displays engine commands like “Stop,” “Half,” and “Full.” The original lettering remains bright, and the glass face is clear with no cracks.

One solid brass handle control the unit and triggers the original mechanical chime. The top of the aluminum housing includes another set of command markings. On one side of the post, a small knob would have adjusted the internal lighting. We have not rewired this.

This piece shows light wear, including some faint scratches on the aluminum, but it remains structurally solid. It’s a practical and well-preserved example of 1970s Japanese maritime equipment, great for display or collection.
