Description

This Vintage Cassens & Plath Drum Sextant carries a 1976 West Germany marking and reflects precise marine navigation design. Navigators relied on instruments like this to determine vessel position using celestial bodies and the visible horizon while underway. A drum sextant measures angles using mirrors, filters, and a graduated arc, while the yacht pattern frame kept the instrument practical for both private vessels and commercial ships.

Additionally, this example retains its telescope, optical filters, and adjustment controls, showing the precision expected from Cassens & Plath instruments. The fitted wooden storage case remains present and displays normal aging from marine storage and handling. Surface wear and light finish marks further support its history of shipboard use while adding authentic vintage character.

However, the sextant has not been tested for navigational accuracy and is being sold as-is.

Features include:

  • Vintage Cassens & Plath Drum Sextant
  • West Germany manufacture with 1976 marking
  • Drum micrometer adjustment system
  • Multiple horizon and sun filters
  • Telescope sight included
  • Original wooden storage case

Today, the sextant displays well in maritime collections, nautical offices, libraries, and coastal interior spaces where genuine navigation equipment adds visual interest.
