Description

This vintage Chadburn ship telegraph features solid brass construction and was originally used to send engine commands from the bridge to the engine room. Chadburn Ship Telegraph Co. Ltd. manufactured it in the UK, with markings for Liverpool, Glasgow, New Castle, Belfast, and London.

This model is slightly larger than other versions we’ve handled, making it a strong visual piece for display in a home, office, or maritime collection. The brass shows surface scratches and natural patina from years of shipboard service. The glass face remains intact, though some dirt is visible underneath the surface.

The handle moves smoothly and rings the internal bell with each movement. A portion of the original control chain remains attached — a great detail for collectors or restoration projects.

The telegraph clearly displays all the expected engine commands for Ahead and Astern: Full, Half, Slow, Stand By, and Stop.

Features:

  • Made by Chadburn Ship Telegraph Co. Ltd.
  • Solid brass with aged patina and visible wear
  • Bell rings when the handle is moved
  • Original engine order commands on both Ahead and Astern sides
  • Partial original control chain still connected
