Here we have a U.S. Navy Magnetic Compass by The Lionel Corporation. The Lionel Corporation is one of the most famous American toy companies – producing model trains since 1906. They even had their model train inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in 2006. Ads highlighted father-son bonding. Lionel Trains, they proclaimed, “made a Boy feel like a Man and a Man feel like a Boy.”
In 1942, Lionel stopped producing toy trains altogether and began manufacturing nautical equipment for the U.S. Navy during World War II. This is one of the models they made in that first year of nautical manufacturing – marked with U.S. Navy and 1942 on the compass.
The markings on this U.S. Navy Magnetic Compass are the following:

Diameter (Frame) : 9.75″
