You are looking at an Authentic NABCO Mounted Engine Order Telegraph. An engine order telegraph (sometimes called engine room telegraph) is a navigation instrument used to communicate the positioning of a ship between the pilot and the engine room. This particular piece would be used by the pilot as it’s smaller and attaches to a console or wall instead of the traditional free-standing EOTs.
The engine order scale reads from top to bottom: Stop-Start 0 – 10. There would have been a chart explaining the meanings of the numbers. Also on the scale, you will see a red marker that says limit and also a yellow marker. The word NABCO can also be found on the right side of the telegraph. After salvaging this engine order telegraph, it has been mounted to a wood piece, making it a great display piece for your house or nautical collection.
