Description
This Large Vintage Red Brass Porthole with Asymmetrical Inset came off a working vessel and shows authentic maritime character. The red brass frame displays natural patina and surface wear from years at sea. In addition, each piece shows varying levels of patina that emphasize its shipboard use. We call it Red Brass because when the port hole was cast, there was a slight percentage of copper in the metal that gives it a red hue.
The thick glass window remains intact. However, as an authentic ship piece, it may also show minor scratches or inclusions. The hinged window opens smoothly, and the two dogs close tightly, working exactly as intended.
The frame measures 19.25 inches in diameter and features a distinctive asymmetrical inset design. On one side, the inset measures about 0.5″. On the opposite side, it extends to 1.5″. This variation makes the porthole unique. Furthermore, the extended lip improves installation by allowing the piece to bolt more securely into drywall or other mounting surfaces.
Finally, the porthole is designed for flush wall mounting. As a result, it works well in cabins, bars, and custom builds. Its large size and asymmetrical inset also set it apart as a standout display in nautical-themed interiors.
