Vintage Great Lakes Salvaged Brass Porthole 11-Inch

This Great Lakes Salvaged Brass Porthole measures 11 inches in diameter and features a solid brass body with its original black painted finish. Areas of exposed brass add contrast and highlight years of authentic marine service. The frame also retains its original Wilcox-Crittenden cast maker’s mark, identifying it as a quality piece of American marine hardware. It came from a Great Lakes vessel and may have originally served aboard a ferry that transported passengers to the Lake Erie islands.

The hinged frame opens and closes smoothly using the original wing-nut dogs. Additionally, the clear glass remains intact and allows plenty of light to pass through. Meanwhile, the painted finish shows honest wear and gives this porthole the authentic character collectors and designers appreciate.

We currently have two of these portholes available. Each one retains its original finish, clear glass, and working hardware. However, every salvaged porthole displays its own paint wear and patina.

For added versatility, we can have a custom mirror made to fit this porthole. As a result, it can become a unique nautical mirror while preserving its authentic maritime character.
