This Vintage Salvaged Salvaged VEB Schiffslaternenwerk Ueckermünde Steel Oil Lantern is a rare find! This vintage lantern was produced by Ahlemann & Schlatter, A Bremen-based company, which was founded in 1868. Starting as a trading and crafts company, They quickly became to specialize in the production of ships’ lanterns. This was due to regulations on ship illuminations in 1875. They excelled in meeting the needs for higher technical demands as well as developing innovations in nautical lighting technology.
This lantern is primarily made of steel, with some brass and copper accents. The Fresnel lens is in excellent condition, with some minor wear and tear due to many years on the sea. The front brass plate reads: “Ahlemann & Schlatter Bremen Metallwarenfabrik” and “Luzes De Navio Desgouvernado”

Wiring:
We have left this light in the unwired condition that it came to us in. There is a reservoir for oil and a wick holder located at the bottom of the lantern. To access the reservoir, loosen the thumbscrew at the top and lift it open.
