Vintage Oil Lantern – Galvanized Marine Light

Description
This vintage oil lantern was manufactured by J.H. Peters & Bey., Hamburg, Germany, a maritime supplier founded in 1881. The company produced navigation lighting and technical ship equipment, and this lantern reflects that working history.
The body features galvanized steel construction and shows heavy age, surface rust, and paint loss from marine use. It measures approximately 23 inches long when hanging. Because one of the three base legs is missing, you must hang the lantern for proper display. The structure remains solid overall; however, it clearly needs restoration work.
The 5.5-inch glass globe features a Fresnel lens design. This lens style concentrates and directs light, which made it effective for marine navigation. Unfortunately, the glass has a major crack with a missing section at the bottom of the fracture. As a result, you would need replacement glass if you plan to restore it for oil use.
Inside the lantern, you will still find the original oil chamber. Although the lantern no longer functions as intended, it works well as a display piece in its current condition. In addition, you can place a candle inside to create a soft light effect for display purposes. Because of the cracked glass, use caution if you choose this option.
We are selling this vintage oil lantern as-is for restoration. It suits anyone looking for a project piece or a rustic maritime display item.
