This is a 1970’s vintage Nippon Sento white light brass and copper oil lantern with a clear Fresnel lens. This lantern is in excellent condition and appears to be unused. It was made in Japan by the Nippon Sento Co Ltd. Nippon Sento Co Ltd was founded in 1936. The Company’s line of business includes manufacturing residential lighting fixtures. They are still producing lights to this day.
This oil lantern has a brass plaque with the model name, number, manufacture date, and a brass plaque that has the instructions for use. This oil lantern is made of Brass, Copper and Glass. The glass on the outside is a thick Fresnel lens. It is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. The oil reserve is accessed by unscrewing the nuts on each side of the base and lifting the outer housing. The oil reserve is quite large, it has a small crew off cap for filling. The cloth wick is enclosed by an open glass dome. There is a small brass handle to raise and lower the wick. The sides of the base have air vents that open and close to control the length of the flame.
