This Salvaged Vintage VEB Schiffslaternenwerk Steel Oil Lantern is a rare find! This vintage lantern is produced by VEB Schiffslaternenwerk Ueckermünde. VEB is a state-owned workplace or establishment during Cold War-era East Germany. The GDR, now known as East Germany, existed from 1949 to 1990 – occupied by Soviet forces and ruled under communist/socialist regimes.
This lantern is primarily made of steel with some brass accents. The Fresnel lens is in excellent condition, with some minor wear and tear due to many years on the sea. The front brass plate reads: “VEB Schiffslaternenwerk Ueckermünde-Made in GDR Deutsche Demokratische Republik”

Wiring:
We have left this light in the unwired condition that it came to us in. There is a reservoir for oil and a wick holder located at the bottom of the lantern. To access the reservoir, loosen the thumbscrew at the top and lift it open.
