Description
This nautical copper lantern came off an unknown vessel but dates back to 1942. Alderson & Gyde LTD manufactured it during the wartime era, and the solid copper body shows years of exposure to sea and weather. The lantern weighs 12 pounds and measures 18 inches when hung.
The clear Fresnel lens includes a red insert, which identified the port (left) side of a ship. The lens has a few surface scratches, but no cracks. Just above the glass, a metal plaque reads: Bow. Port Patt.23, marking its original function as a navigation light near the bow.
We rewired the lantern for modern use, and it’s ready to install indoors or outdoors. You can hang it from a hook or mount it to a wall. We preserved the original patina to keep the authentic aged look intact.
Features:
- Solid copper with natural weathered patina
- Clear Fresnel lens with red insert
- Wired for standard bulbs and ready to use
- Weighs 12 lbs., 18″ total hanging length
Wiring:
This light has been re-wired with all new UL-Listed parts, including a medium base socket and ground wire, that are rated for any voltage under 250 volts. We recommend using a standard base LED bulb / LED Edison bulb, which allows you to choose the bulb’s brightness to match your lighting area.
