Description
The Bahraini flag reflects the country’s history, culture, and identity. It features a red field with a white section on the left side.
Each part of the design carries meaning. The red background connects to the Kharijite Muslim sect that once ruled Bahrain. In addition, the white section represents the Bani Utbah tribe, the island’s early inhabitants.
The flag also includes five white triangles along the edge. These represent the five pillars of Islam. The serrated line between the red and white sections represents the surrounding waterways.
Bahrain officially raised this flag on February 14, 2002, when it became a kingdom. Since then, people have used it as a national symbol at public buildings and events.
