Sierra Nautical Signal – Letter S Maritime Flag

This Sierra nautical signal flag represents the letter “S” in the international maritime signal system. When flown, it means: “I am operating astern propulsion,” or simply, “I’m backing up.” Crews used this signal to alert nearby vessels to proceed with caution.

This flag measures approximately 36″ x 32″. The white areas have aged into a cream tone from time at sea. The fabric is very dirty, which is clearly shown in the photos.
