Signal Flag, Alpha

The Nautical Alpha Signal Flag represents the letter “A” in the International Code of Signals. It features two colors: white on top and blue on the bottom.

This maritime signal flag has two official meanings:

• I am undergoing a speed trial
• Diver below

The most common use today is to signal that a diver is underwater. When a diving support vessel is stationary with a diver below, the Alpha flag is raised as a safety warning.

This flag tells nearby vessels to keep clear and proceed at a safe distance. It helps prevent accidents caused by propellers or vessel movement near the diver.

The Alpha signal flag is recognized worldwide and remains an important part of maritime safety communication.
