This letter Z nautical signal flag was removed from a vessel being cut up for scrap. This flag is exactly like it was when it was found, it has not been washed. It is black, yellow, red, and navy.
Z: Zulu – “I require a tug.” When made by fishing vessels operating in close proximity on the fishing grounds it means: “I am shooting nets”.
On the corner of the flag-pole side of the flag, there is a small loop, and on the opposite corner, there is a short section of rope.
Shown in the photos is one side of the nautical signal flag and a close up of the fabrics fibers.
