Description

This 1st Substitute Maritime Signal was removed from a ship being scrapped. It measures 82 inches by 47 inches and is in its original condition—dirty, unwashed, and full of character from time spent in real service.

In maritime signaling, the 1st substitute pennant replaces the first flag in a hoist when it appears more than once. It also serves another purpose: signaling that a flag officer or unit commander is not on board while in port.

Made from durable marine fabric, this flag is built for function and has the wear to prove it. It’s a true piece of shipboard communication, perfect for collectors or those looking to add maritime authenticity to a space.

Features:

  • Original 1st substitute signal flag
  • Size: 82″ x 47″
  • Unwashed condition with signs of real sea use
  • Indicates repeat of first flag in hoist or absence of officer in port
  • Salvaged from a vessel headed for scrap
