Authentic handmade half Wooden Lobster Toggle buoy painted orange and black. Toggle buoys are positioned above the lobster trap and connected to the main buoy 15 to 30 feet away. This keeps the rope off the bottom in fluctuating tides. The main buoys are the ones with the handle on top. Toggle buoys make a great addition to a nautical collection because their size makes them easy to display.
This piece is quite unusual due to the fact that even though it was damaged the lobsterman still kept it in use. The toggle Buoy is approximately 12 inches high and 6 inches at its widest point. It weights 2.1 pounds.
Most buoys are made of cedar because of the lightness of the wood. Cracking is the natural drying process in the wood. Only in rare cases would this affect the buoy and adds to it’s character.
Each color and pattern is unique to a specific lobsterman.
These lobster buoys would look great in any nautical themed area, pool side decorations, Bar decorations, and patio areas are just a few. The options are endless.
Big Ship Salvage scours the world for nautical antique lights, décor and other items related to the Nautical Life. Brass, copper, stainless steel and sometimes aluminum materials are used to make-up the vintage lights that we find. We soda-blast the old paint off, remove the old wiring and polish before they arrive in our warehouse. Then, we rewire with UL listed bulb sockets and wiring harnesses and get ready for purchase. They are now ready to warm your home, business or restaurant with that nautical feeling we all desire.
