This is a vintage brass Fire-Gun No.0 fire extinguisher with its original bracket made by American-LaFrance-Foamite Corporation. It has been mounted to a piece of wood for display purposes. The American LaFrance Fire Engine Company dates back to 1832, making it one of the oldest fire apparatus manufacturers in the United States. In 1927, the company acquired a company which had developed Foamite, a chemical foam fire suppression system. They were known as American-LaFrance–Foamite Corporation, until 1955. This style fire extinguisher was used from around 1910 until it was discontinued around 1960. This style fire extinguisher were used in homes, vehicles, airplanes, boats, etc.
The wood mount measures 16 1/2 inches long by 4 1/2 inches wide by 3/3 inches high. The extinguisher and bracket are 13 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches high. This piece weighs arund 5.5 pounds. The bracket is most likely steel while the extinguisher is solid brass. The label is stamped/pressed into the brass.
