This Orange Painted Fiberglass Cowl Vent was on boats as a way to get smoke away from the ship. The curved edge helps prevent wind from blowing the smoke back down through the vent. These were used on vintage pleasure crafts such as Chris Craft and Lyman.
As you can see from the photos, this cowl vent has been painted over a few times.
