Description
This nautical aneroid barometer was made in 1978 by Takahashi and is marked “Osaka” on the dial, indicating its origin in Osaka, Japan. Aneroid barometers measure atmospheric pressure using a sealed metal chamber that expands and contracts with pressure changes, moving the needle mechanically. Instruments like this were used aboard ships to monitor weather conditions.
The top housing is brass with heavy patina from age and use, while the mounting base is steel. The lower portion of the dial is set down into the brass housing, giving the face some depth and a slightly recessed look. The glass is clear and in good condition, allowing full visibility of the dial and internal components. This unit has been tested and is in working condition.
