The 120 mm Gun M1, manufactured in 1952, was a powerful artillery piece that the United States used in both World War II and the Korean War. Notably, its shell casing was a massive piece of metal, measuring about 48 inches in length and 5.5 inches in diameter. Made from high-strength steel, the casing was designed to withstand the tremendous pressure and heat generated by the explosive charge inside. When fired, the gun would eject the casing with incredible force, often landing several hundred yards away from the firing position. Despite being a simple piece of equipment, the 120 mm Gun M1 shell casing played a critical role in the effectiveness of the artillery piece. Specifically, it allowed soldiers to deliver devastating blows to enemy positions from a safe distance. Consequently, the shell casing serves as a tangible reminder of the power and sacrifice of the soldiers who used this weapon to defend their country.
