This is a The Ashcroft MFG. Co. DK Water Line Gauge. This was manufactured in New York by the Ashcroft MFG. Co. Ashcroft dates back to 1852 when Edward H. Ashcroft bought the rights to a French pressure gauge design to revolutionize the pressure gauges for steam engines. The invention of a pressure gauge that could monitor high pressure decreased the number of steam engine accidents.
This is a very versatile item. It will be of interest for a broad range of designers – Steam Punk to nautical design in mind.
While the housing is painted black, it is cast iron and aluminum under the paint. The undamaged glass on the top of the dial measures about 4 inches wide. The connection point for the source being measured is made of brass.
