This is a Great Lakes Salvaged Schaeffer & Budenberg Hydraulic Gauge produced in the early 1900s. This was manufactured by the Schaeffer & Budenberg Mfg. Co. in New York. Being Founded in 1850, Schaeffer & Budenberg is one of the older manufacturers of boiler appliances. The invention of a pressure gauge that could monitor high pressure decreased the number of steam engine accidents.
The entire housing on this hydraulic gauge is solid brass. The main housing measures about 9.5 inches in diameter. The mounting frame on the back measures just under 10 inches in diameter and has three mounting holes. The glass on the top of the dial measures about 7.5 inches in diameter. The dial reads “Schaeffer & Budenberg Mfg. Co “, “New York & Chicago”, “Hydraulic Gauge”, “Schaeffer & Budenberg – New York” and the logo. When mounted to the wall, this pressure gauge will extend out from the surface by just over 2 inches. It Weights 11.4 pounds. It reads up to 2000.
